The story, for anyone who doesn’t know the Wizard of Oz, is about Dorothy who lives on a farm in Kansas and is injured during a tornado. She takes a journey in her mind over the rainbow to Oz where she meets good witch, Glinda and the munchkins. She makes friends with a Scarecrow, the Tin Man and a Lion, who travel with her to find the Wizard hoping to get for themselves a brain, heart and courage. Dorothy just wants to find a way home.
They encounter a wicked witch in the process but are able to escape and find what they were hoping for. Dorothy discovers that it’s not where you go, but who you meet along the way that is most important.
The students have been preparing since mid February learning lines, songs, choreography and recently adding lights, microphones, props and sets. Cast members belong to the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Three of the cast parts have been doubled. Students will also be involved in set design, tech, stage and make up crews.
