Walworth Memorial Library named as newest recipient of Lowe’s Hero Program
Walworth Memorial Library is in the process of gaining a new memorial garden on the west side of the building thanks to an award from Lowe’s.
The library is the newest recipient of the Lowe’s Hero Program and as a result, the Lowe’s team will be constructing and planting the garden at the library building.
According to a press release from the library, the purpose of the garden is to provide a garden area to commemorate veterans past, present and future. All of the crews from Lowe’s working on the project are volunteering their time to complete the project.
Work began on the garden on Oct. 10 with crews clearing out the grassy area and carving out the garden and patio area. Work will continue this weekend and hopes are the project will be completed on Oct. 24.
Plans are to dedicate the memorial garden on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11.
According to Lowe’s website, Lowe’s embraces teamwork as a core value and a key ingredient in maintaining an engaged work force.
As a result, the Lowe’s Heroes program, which began more than 10 years ago, follows that same philosophy.
“We believe that by working together we can build something better — for our company, our customers and our communities. Transforming lives one community at a time,” the website reads. “The program encourages employees in a location to team together, adopt a volunteer project with a local nonprofit organization or K–12 public school and make a difference.”
