Production is both written and directed by students
Williams Bay High School will be presenting its production of its student written and directed play, “Memories,” on March 21 and 22 at the school.
The play focuses on four old classmates who reunite for their 10-year high school reunion and find themselves reminiscing about the last time they had seen each other: the night of their senior prom.
The meanings behind awkward silences, petty fights and life-changing communications are examined as that the drama that is high school unfolds.
The play was written by Williams Bay High School students Jacob Landgraf and Katerina Dawis.
Dawis, who is also a student director, this marks the first time the high school’s current drama club students have written their own play, with Williams Bay previously performing an original play around ten years ago, which she said she believes was written by a member of the school’s staff.
Dawis said it took the pair around a month to write the play, with Landgraf focusing on the storyline and Dawis on the script.
“It was pretty fun, though it was pretty embarrassing at first when they started saying the lines we wrote,” she said.
“Writing the play was the first time in a long time that I felt really excited about writing and once I got into it, I really wanted to see it through to the end.”
Dawis said she admits that directing the play isn’t quite as enjoyable as writing it, though it has still been an all around rewarding process.
“It’s still pretty fun, but I never realized how much stress was involved and that I’m not that great of a leader of people,” she said.
“Still, everyone did their best and there were more fun times than stressful times.”
The play is being performed both this Saturday and Sunday at Williams Bay High School, 500 W. Geneva St. The play will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday night and 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
