Former Village of Sharon Trustee and Board President Diana Dykstra is leaving the Village of Darien for a position in Poplar Grove, Ill.

Dykstra, who was hired to replace Marc Dennison in 2010, will become the administrator in Poplar Grove, a village of about 5,000 people 13 miles southwest of Sharon. Dykstra left her position as Village of Sharon President in April 2014, the end of her last term.

Dykstra’s last official day working for the Village of Darien was Jan. 12 but she will continue to work on an hourly basis on nights and weekends through the Feb. 17 election and will help train her replacement.

“It is really important for me to continue to keep Darien moving forward,” she said. “We have accomplished so much. The last thing I want is for the new person to come into an unmanageable workload.”

Village Board President Kurt Zipp said the village has already posted advertisements in a few publications for municipalities and he hopes the position will be filled by the end of February or early March.

“We are sorry to see her go,” Zipp said. “She will be missed, and we wish her well.”
