After being cramped for space for so long, the Walworth Library reopened its doors Dec. 8 in its new location at the West Garden Plaza in Walworth.

The library closed the doors at the old location Nov. 20 and began the move to the new location over the following weeks.

Walworth Memorial Library Director Bobbi Sorrentino said with the move, there is much for both her and patrons to be excited about.

“First of all, there’s a ton more space,” she said. “People look at it from outside and say, ‘is it the same size as the old building,’ and then they come in and say, ‘oh my gosh, there’s so much room here.’”

About four times larger than the library’s previous location and drowning in natural light, to Sorrentino the library is now one floor, features “huge” bathrooms and a large parking area.

“Compared to the other library, we had like four parking spots, so, it’s a really big change,” she said.

Fully handicapped accessible, Sorrentino said the new location features a children’s area that sits away from the rest of the library – allowing children to be children – a lounge with a fireplace, a new teen’s area, a tutoring room and a community room with a kitchen that she said will be available to rent out when the library is closed.
