The Village of Walworth is holding a public hearing for its proposed 2015 budget at 7:30 p.m. this coming Monday, Dec. 1, at the Village Hall, 227 N. Main St., Walworth.
According to a copy of the 2015 General Fund Budget provided by the Village of Walworth Clerk’s office, the proposed tax levy is a slight increase over last year, rising from $1.33 million to $1.36 million, an approximately $31,000 increase.
The proposed budget calls for an additional $485,107 in total revenue – totaling $2,684,549 – in comparison to last year’s budgeted $2,199,442, taking into account a budgeted $496,000 in commercial revenue for 2015.
Last year’s estimated mill rate sat at about $6.82 per $1,000 of assessed value, approximately $682 for a $100,000 homeowner in the Village of Walworth. Village of Walworth Clerk Donna Schut was out of the office Wednesday and unable to comment on the proposed budget until she returns Monday.
Schut said last year as the mill rate is based on assessed value, it can change slightly when equalized values come in to the office, however, it likely doesn’t account for a major change in the mill rate.
Following Monday evening’s budget hearing, the Village Board is expected to vote on the proposed budget, as well as establishing the tax levy.
