Painter Martha Hayden will open her Sharon home and studio for her annual studio exhibition this weekend from noon to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 and 26.
Located at 143 Prairie St., the home is a historic Victorian built in the 1870s. Ms. Hayden began painting in 1954 and moved to Sharon in 1962. 50 years of work will be on display including landscapes, painted in Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, France, Ireland, and in Vilnius, Lithuania, along with still life, figure painting, etchings and woodcuts.
This year Hayden’s work was shown in New York City in exhibits at The National Arts Club, The Old Print Shop and Central Booking Gallery. She was invited to be a part of The Mutannabi Street Project which has organized over 100 exhibitions in North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
During the past year, Hayden’s work was featured at the Grand Rapids Museum in Michigan as an award winner in ArtPrize 2013 and Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., acquired works for their collections. She is also included in a new book, “100 Artists of the Midwest,” by E. Ashley Rooney published last winter.
Hayden’s work is in more than 2,500 collections worldwide, including The British Museum in London, The Museo do Arte Moderno in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
