The members of the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra has its first concert of the 2013-14 season on a rainy Saturday evening Nov. 16 at Calvary Community Church in Williams Bay.

Members of the orchestra – many with instruments in hand – greeted family, friends and neighbors during the intermission and after the performance.

The LGSO’s next concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Elkhorn Area High School featuring Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7” and the “Academic Festival Overture” by Brahms. In addition, Cristopher Martin, principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will joining the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra in a performance of the “Trumpet Concerto” by Alexander Arutunian.

This season, the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra will inaugurate a new chamber music concert series to complement the full orchestra performances.

Chamber music for smaller groups of musicians has been part of the orchestra for many years, as small groups of musicians have played for fun and at various community functions. The new chamber music series recognizes and celebrates that tradition.

The first chamber music concert will take place at 3 p.m. Nov. 24 at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan.

The Lakeview Strings – comprised of Laurie Cornue on violin, Natalya Nikonova on violin, Bill Zartman on viola, and Anne McCord on cello – will perform works by Bach, Mozart and David Stone.

In addition, The Prevailing Winds – made up of Eileen Weyrauch on flute, Lauren Zemlicka on oboe, Cindy White on clarinet, Heidi Anderson on bassoon and Elmore Falb on horn – will perform works by Mozart, Haydn, Strauss, Cabini, Lefebvre and Dukas.

Admission to the chamber music concert is free, but donations are accepted to support the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra.
