The Lake Geneva Fire Dept. raised $2,150 to support the free mammogram program at Aurora Cancer Care – Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, firefighters sold pink T-shirts for $15, with all proceeds going directly to the free mammogram program.
“Everyone from the fire department is pleased that we were able to raise funds for cancer prevention,” said Captain Zina Opper. “A mammogram is an important screening tool that can save lives. Selling these T-shirts is a way to promote breast cancer awareness.”
Vicki Lewis, president of Aurora Lakeland Medical Center and Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington, said, “We are honored the Lake Geneva Fire Dept. chose to support the mammogram program and make a difference for people right here in our community. Women who are unable to cover the cost of mammograms and other imaging services can receive this life-saving screening.”
