Memory Café to feature Valentine’s as topic

Memory Café, which continues to rotate through area libraries, will next be next on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Lake Geneva Public Library, 918 W Main St., Lake Geneva.

There is currently free parking in Lake Geneva and the café will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The topic will be Valentine’s Day and those who have memories to share are encouraged to bring them along.

There is a new Memory Café in Burlington that will meet the third Friday of every month at the Aurora Wellness Center, Classroom B, 300 McCanna Parkway, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

More than 4,000 folks throughout the area and more than 50 businesses, organizations and faith communities have been trained in becoming dementia friendly thus far. Organizers are currently in the process of training the Walworth County Sheriff’s office and even though Walworth County is the only one in the state to be recognized nationally as a Dementia Friendly County, there is more training to do.

“So please keep after your favorite local business to become dementia friendly. Let us know the business you would like to see trained, and Bernadette and I will follow up with them,” said Eric Russow, who along with his wife, Bernadette, have led the dementia friendly awareness and training efforts in the area.

In an effort to further help spread the message and get more people trained in being dementia friendly, a “Train the Trainer” program will be held on March 11 at Old world Wisconsin, from 9 a.m. to noon.

To register for the Train the Trainer event, call the Russows at 262-320-7325 or send an email to [email protected].

As a reminder, the Memory Café is always a free program. Anyone new planning to attend is asked to register with the Alzheimer’s Association by calling 1-800-272-3900.
