Lake Geneva restaurateur faces felony charges

The owner of Popeye’s restaurant in Lake Geneva was released from jail on a $10,000 signature bond Tuesday after allegedly assaulting an employee Saturday.
Charges were pending Tuesday when bond was set for Dimitrius Anagnos, 52, of Lake Geneva, who faces two felony offenses. The nature of the offenses was not discussed during Tuesday’s bond hearing, and Lake Geneva police did not return phone calls regarding his arrest prior to deadline for this story.
Lake Geneva online news organization, the Geneva Shore Report, is reporting Anagnos assaulted an employee on Saturday.
That employee is one of five Popeye’s employees with whom Anagnos was ordered to have no contact Tuesday as a condition of bond. The 24-year-old victim was not named in court.
Walworth County Assistant District Attorney Andrew Herrmann requested a cash bond for Anagnos. He said although Anagnos’ criminal history consists of only a first-offense drunken driving conviction, the charges he faces are serious and warrant cash bond.
Anagnos’ attorney, Larry Steen, asked for a signature bond, citing Anagnos’ roots in Lake Geneva and lack of past offenses.
“He has no criminal record whatsoever,” he said.
He said Anagnos was born and raised in Lake Geneva and is the chief executive officer of Popeye’s, which his family owns.
“There’s more than enough to show the defendant will appear in court,” he said.
Steen also asked that contact be allowed with the Popeye’s employees when they’re working.
Judge Kristine Drettwan approved the signature bond based on Anagnos’ local ties but enforced the no-contact order with the Popeye’s employees, all of whom were either witnesses or the victim of Anagnos’ alleged crime.
“He won’t be able to be present when those people are working their shifts,” Drettwan said.
Other conditions are that Anagnos consume no alcohol and possess no weapons. He is scheduled to appear in court again Oct. 6.
