Feb. 8 to 12 is Family Career and Community Leaders of America week, and the Badger chapter has been busy with its Snack Smarter in Schools campaign by providing students with healthy snacks during exams.
On Jan. 26, Family Career and Community Leaders of America brought Ollie the Otter and the Seat Belt and Booster Seat Safety program to Central Denison Elementary School.
The students helped Ollie the Otter to promote seat belt awareness to the third-graders. The program is sponsored by Tennessee Tech University. Three representatives from the university came to train Badger’s Family Career and Community Leaders of America and SkillsUSA members prior to the assembly for 10 classes of third-graders at Central Denison. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin also sponsored the event, and the Lake Geneva Police Department provided Detective McGruff for the assembly.
Family Career and Community Leaders of America is utilizing grant money to purchase the Ollie the Otter program to continue it in the future.
Family Career and Community Leaders of America also had Trunk Junk on Jan. 28. In conjunction with Children’s Hospital Wisconsin Crossroads, volunteers checked the trunks of students and faculty looking for winter safety items including a warm blanket, boots, jumper cables, scrapers and flashlights. State Farm Insurance is a partner in the program and provided scrapers and flashlights to students who didn’t have them in their cars.
