A Genoa City woman appeared in court Tuesday on a homicide charge in connection with a May drunken driving accident that killed a passenger in the car she was driving.
Deidra M. Dawley, 35, pleaded not guilty Oct. 1 to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration.
According to the criminal complaint, Dawley was driving a vehicle that lost control and struck a tree on Townline Road in the Town of Lyons at about 6 p.m. May 9. Sarah A. Enders, 22, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene while still in the vehicle.
An autopsy revealed Enders died from blunt chest trauma as the belted passenger of the car that struck the tree, according to the complaint. Dawley, who allegedly told an emergency medical technician at the scene that she didn’t know what happened because she was “too drunk,” was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa where her blood-alcohol content was measured at .136 percent.
