The Carriage House at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp sustained extensive interior damage from an Oct. 4 fire, according to the Lake Geneva Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the camp, 1724 W. Main St., at about 12:10 p.m. Oct. 4 and discovered a well-involved fire in the unoccupied Carriage House, according to the department. A second alarm was transmitted through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, which brought additional companies from surrounding fire departments.
Crews initiated an aggressive attack to extinguish the fire, but the building sustained extensive interior damage, according to the department. One firefighter was transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. Crews were back in quarters at 6:29 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Pat Heindl credited the department’s duty crew that is staffed on weekends as well as weekdays.
“ This enabled us to get a full engine crew out the door rapidly and get water on the fire quickly,” he said. “Since a fire can double in size every 30 seconds, a fast response makes all the difference in the world. All of the crews worked hard to limit the damage from this fire.”
