Former Brookwood Elementary School students, who are now Badger High School seniors, completed their senior projects by sprucing up the Genoa City school including painting a mural in the entryway at the middle school.
Former Brookwood teacher Gerri Duros-Cooper led 10 students – Tiana Howard, Allison Johnson, Kurtis Knull, Madisun LaPlant, Julia Melson, Devyn Mumford, Jordan Schneider, Taylor Schneider, Roma Smith and Leslie Zelinski – in completing the required hours needed to fulfill a graduation requirement.
Brookwood Superintendent Kellie Bohn and elementary Principal Teresa Curley met with Cooper and came up with projects that would spruce up both buildings. Students completed necessary forms and submitted ideas to Badger’s senior project coordinators. After approval, they were ready to begin the required 20 hours.
Projects included painting a Brookwood mustang in the entryway of the middle school, assisting teachers during summer school sessions, clearing out furniture, painting walls and wooden tables, adding designs to elementary chairs and tables, creating a new teacher workroom and organizing new classroom and library materials. Students will present their individual projects to Badger staff members for acceptance.
“It was such a treat to have Brookwood students come back and complete their senior projects in our district,” Bohn said. “I was so pleased with the level of commitment and quality of their work. They really made an impact. As a staff, we take such pride in seeing our Brookwood students go on and do great things at Badger, and so it really meant a lot to have them choose to do their projects in our schools.”
Senior projects will be presented at Badger in October.
