The Geneva Lake Art Association’s members exhibit works in their own gallery and show their work in local establishments each month.
The GLAA will sponsor these “out-of-gallery” exhibits in November:
• BMO Harris Bank, 410 Broad St., will display the artwork of Ken Cottingham;
• LilyPots Florist, 605 Main St., will display the work of Linda Marasco;
• Lake Geneva Creperie, 234 Broad St., will feature the work of Susie Williams and Agnes Handwerk.
Handwerk started her art career while living in the Netherlands with her family. She studied under a noted Dutch artist and painted with acrylics doing still life, landscape and figure paintings.
On returning to the United States, she immersed herself in a career with the Kemper Group in Long Grove, Ill.
She then returned to Europe where she traveled in Italy, Poland, France and Germany. She recently retired to Wisconsin.
Handwerk resumed her study of art, taking classes in drawing from a local artist. She does still life and landscapes in colored pencil and especially flowers, for which she won a ribbon for “People’s Choice” at a GLAA exhibit in Lake Geneva. She now has ventured into watercolor;
• The Lake Geneva Public Library, will exhibit the work of Lester Crisman;
• Talmer Bank and Trust, 567 Broad St., will feature the work of painter Kathy Weber.
“I have been exploring art from an early age, but it has only been in the past few years that I have been drawn to the watercolor challenge. Watercolor commands going with the flow so much magic can happen. Expanding my repertoire of painting techniques is my current focus. It is a rare day when I do not pick up a paint brush.
“My grandfather was a wildlife artist and probably gave me my first paints. Instruction began for me at the Art Institute of Chicago but then life took over and although I kept an art hand in through the years it was only after retirement that I began to focus on watercolor, with the emphasis on color.”
Weber said she is inspired by nature and a rural upbringing and life in the country influence her painting.
“I’m an outside person, an avid gardener, walker and nature lover,” she said. “I especially enjoy the very many conservation areas with walking paths in our area and frequent them weekly.”
Weber is a member of Geneva Lake Art Association and Lake Region Watercolor Guild. Her paintings have been juried into shows at The Lake County Discovery Museum, Wauconda, Ill., Illinois Watercolor Society “Small Waters” 2012 show, Women’s Works 2012 in Woodstock, Ill., and “Bog Art” 2012-13, Volo Bog, Wauconda, Ill. She has participated in shows at the Dole Mansion, Crystal Lake, Ill., Woodstock Opera House, Woodstock, Ill., Lake Geneva Public Library, Lily Pots Flowers, Lake Geneva, and The Studio, McHenry, Ill. Weber has also been in shows at La Piece de Polissage Gallery, Starline, Harvard, Ill. during its Fourth Friday events. Her paintings are now exhibited at ReVive Gallery in Lake Geneva.
In 2013 Weber received recognition from the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association winning a state award for a painting called “Frogs & Flowers” and first prize in the Contour Notes Contest allowing her black and white painting called “Patient Pups” to appear on the cover of 2014 issues of Contour Notes.
