Hundreds of community members are expected to gather at Library Park in Lake Geneva on Sept. 21 for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
More than 650 people from Walworth County are expected to participate in this year’s event. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting promptly at 10 a.m.
Patti Pagel, director of senior health for Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, is the honorary chairman for the walk. Post-walk food and refreshments, compliments of Stinebrinks’ Piggly Wiggly and the Lake Geneva Jaycees, will be available along with entertainment by the Petty Thieves.
In 2012, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Walworth County raised more than $107,000 to help individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and their families access support and services, including the Alzheimer’s Association 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week “helpline,” support groups, research, education and training.
Participants can register, support another walker and get information online at www.alz.org/sewi. For a brochure, call 800-272-3900. Registration also can be done the day of the walk.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Walworth County is being co-chaired by Sonja Akright, sales support executive with Primex Wireless, and Andy Kerwin, owner and operator of Geneva Crossing Senior Community. The event is also supported by a committee of local community leaders along with staff from the Alzheimer’s Association.
