He allegedly left the scene after striking a 70-year-old man
Police have arrested a local man in connection with a hit and run in Elkhorn Sunday night that killed a 70-year-old man.
Bradley R. Kirkpatrick, 33, of Elkhorn, was arrested and booked into the Walworth County Jail Wednesday for the hit and run that occurred Oct. 3 near Gateway Technical College, according to Elkhorn police.
The man who was struck, Francisco Garcia, 70, of rural Lake Geneva, was reportedly walking on Highway H the evening of Oct. 3. Just after 10:30 p.m., police and rescue personnel were dispatched to a report of a man in the ditch who was not breathing, according to police. He was later identified as Garcia.
First responders attempted life saving measures on Garcia but he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene, police said.
Police put out a call for information about a truck seen leaving the area of the incident. It was described as a silver GMC pickup truck with possible minor damage to the passenger side headlight lens and surrounding area. Police also said the description they had received of the truck indicated it might be slightly lifted, have chrome rims on the wheels and be in good condition.
In the latest update, police said information gathered through the investigation would be referred to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
The Walworth County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
