A 23-year-old Elkhorn man died early Sunday morning after the car he was driving crashed in East Troy.
According to a press release from the Town of East Troy Police Department, the single vehicle crash happened around 12:48 a.m. Sunday, July 5, at the intersection of Bell School Road and Stone School Road in the Township of East Troy.
The driver, Michael J. Jacobus, of Elkhorn, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 30-year-old Jordan D. Webster, of East Troy, was transported to Froedtert Memorial Hospital for the injuries he suffered.
Town of East Troy Police Chief Don Jensen said the vehicle had been observed “driving at a high rate of speed” in the Village of East Troy before the crash Sunday morning.
“My officers were on a traffic stop at Kwik Trip (highways 20 and ES) and observed a car driving at a high rate of speed, squealing the tires, turning from ES onto 20,” said Village of East Troy Police Chief Jeremy Swendrowski.
“My officer said they were going about 70 to 80 miles an hour by the time they got to Highway L. The officer lost sight of the car and a minute or two later an officer in the township saw them heading back toward Highway 20 driving at a high rate of speed. My officer sent back to Highway L and by the time they turned onto L, the vehicle was out of sight,” he added.
Swendrowski said the crash happened a few minutes later.
Jensen said Webster had been released from the hospital and was even seen riding his skateboard on Monday.
“I’m so glad we didn’t have another death from this crash,” Jensen said. “I’m so grateful he’s able to get around and is OK, things don’t always go that way.”
