Tammy Dunn has been named executive director of the Walworth Count branch of the United Way, effective Oct. 14. Dunn replaces Dan Nordsieck, who left to pursue a business venture.

Dunn worked for 10 years at her family business, Dunn Lumber in Lake Geneva as an office assistant. Her husband Mike Dunn owned the company until selling it to Spahn and Rose of Iowa in February.

She was also instrumental in the foundation of the annual Bowl-a-Thon in Lake Geneva that benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Dunn said it was founded around 1992 and she was involved for 10 years during which time the event grew tremendously and more than $100,000 was raised.

“We wanted to do something that would make a difference,” Dunn said of her and her bowling team’s effort to raise money for a worthy cause.

Dunn said she and her husband have always attended and supported charitable events in the county, personally and through Dunn Lumber. The opportunity to support good causes is what attracted Dunn to the opening at United Way.

She said she watched the thermometer for the United Way, which is posted in communities, for years without truly realizing the reach the organization had.

“They make such a difference in so many charitable places in the county,” she said.
