Local florist Katie Rush is at it again, recently taking top honors at the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Art in Bloom contest when she stole the hearts of attendees with her piece at this year’s event and winning the First Place People’s Choice award all three days.
Rush has attended the annual three-day event for the past 15 years, and has participated the past five, winning two awards in 2016 for her floral arrangements as well, including a first place award in the Beauty in Bloom contest.
“It has always been inspiring to see the museum’s artwork, but then to add the medium that I love and work with: flowers,” she said. “It’s our chance to paint with flowers.”
Rush, along with 35 to 40 other floral designers, compete in the event each year, which gives them an opportunity to showcase their talents and artform while networking with – and learning from – other designers.
