Walworth County Health and Human Services is hosting a Safe and Savvy Senior Day beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.
Law enforcement, the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Walworth County, Lakeland Health Care Center, Veterans Services, and others will discuss topics to educate seniors on financial planning and county services to enhance their daily lives and protect them from abuse and neglect.
“Our veterans are often unaware of the benefits that their military service earned. Many took off their uniform and never gave another thought to their time in service,” Nathan Bond, Veterans Services stated in a press release. “Unlike the Veterans of our more recent conflicts, our older Veterans were never informed by the military about the full extent of benefits available to them. These can make a huge difference for Veterans and their spouses living on fixed incomes.
“Also, because Veterans tend to be more concerned about the well-being of the community, they are more susceptible to scammers looking to take advantage of their generosity,” Bond added.
HHS staff will be on hand to assist all seniors, veterans and non-veterans alike, and their families, with advanced directives, as well as offer information on other county services. The event is free and open to the public.
