They’ll earn community service hours, letters of recommendation
Walworth County Volunteer Services and Lakeland Health Care Center would like to invite high school students to participate in the “Next Generation” program at Lakeland Health Care Center.
Next Generation aims to bridge the intergenerational gap between teenagers and seniors. The first meeting was already held but participants are still being accepted. The group is set to meet every Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m., through May 28 (with the exception of April 23.) A commitment to attend the remaining sessions planned is encouraged.
The idea is new and allows a small group (up to 10) of high school students to enter an 8-week service program at LHCC. The participants will meet for one hour per week at the health care center, and have the ability to meet with guest speakers about various health care career, as well as spend time with residents in a fun, structured activity.
Next Generation will provide participants with community service hours as well as provide the participants exposure to a variety of careers including: therapeutic recreation, certified nursing assistants, physical, speech, and occupational therapy, nursing, dietary, clerical, social work and maintenance.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion once they have successfully completed the program and a letter of recommendation.
