Nick Sergi’s giving will help feed people throughout county

All his family and friends, who were involved in making the 1,200 pounds of beef donation to the Walworth County Food Pantry Jan. 11 to honor the legacy of Sergi Farms founder Nick Sergi, would say one thing.
“This would put a smile on his (Sergi’s) face,” Bryant Meinel farm manager and close friend of Sergi said. “We are giving quality food.”
Sergi died in a dirt bike accident Oct. 27 at the age of 28. Earlier in October, he made arrangements with St. Patrick’s Church and local food pantries for this donation.
The 100 percent volunteer-run Walworth County Food Pantry provides assistance to about 500 families per month and about 60 people stop in the food pantry during their open hours on a given day. They help provide a second food options for people who use the local food pantries and still need additional food a month. Their services include providing the senior drop box program and diaper assistance.
The donation – though delivered to the county food pantry due to logistics of such a large donation – was to be shared among to pantries throughout the county.
“He always had a dream of donating and always looked at different ways to donate,” Joe Sergi, his brother said.
