Elkhorn Area High School teacher Jerry Iserloth predicts the need for employees with cyber security knowledge is going to explode. With businesses such as Foxconn coming to Wisconsin, he said, someone will need to protect them.
“I want to see more of an awareness (of cyber security),” Isersloth, AP computer science instructor and PLTW master teacher said. “I see parents and teachers concerned.”
Through the pilot class of cyber security, he said he hopes to give his students knowledge so they can use the skills in their careers and learn how to protect businesses and themselves. Cyber security in today’s world has become an essential part of professional as well as personal lives. With the recent crop of cyber threats cropping up, there is no better way than acquiring it managed services to not only handle things on the security front but also look at other IT solutions that might need expert handling. These other IT solutions do not just apply to computers, it extends to other technology within the same field such as protecting mobile devices for businesses who work from remote areas. EAHS is the only school in Wisconsin piloting cyber security as a part of its Project Lead The Way program.
PLTW provides transformative learning experiences for K-12 students and teachers by using hands-on classroom learning environments. The students gain knowledge that requires in-demand knowledge that helps giving students the skills and what they need to know to thrive in today’s society.
The cyber security course includes personal, system, network and applied cyber security areas.
“In each one, students learn how to prevent hackers from getting to us,” Iserloth said.
