Stir It Up, an annual charitable fundraising event that began four years ago, aims to provide a creative way for the greater community to support several area causes.
This year’s event, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 4 at Elkhorn Area High School, will feature a wide variety of food samples from top area restaurants and entertainment by music groups from EAHS, and Big Foot High School.
This year’s beneficiaries are: New Beginnings domestic violence shelter build campaign; Lakeland Animal Shelter; VIP Services; and, area high school music programs.
The event is sponsored through a partnership with the Rotary Club of Elkhorn and VIP Services.
The event has grown each year in attendance and this year’s event will feature roughly 20 area restaurants.
Funds raised come from several levels of sponsorship, ticket sales and raffles.
Diamond sponsors for this year’s event are Kunes Country Auto Group and Advia Credit Union (Peoples Bank) along with numerous other businesses, organizations and members of the greater community stepping in to support the event in a variety of capacities.
Cynthia Simonsen, executive director at VIP Services, said in addition to the “delicious food donated by area restaurants, the event also provides a venue to showcase our musically talented area high school students. Stir It Up truly brings the community together through fellowship to raise awareness and funds to make Walworth County a better place for all.”
The tentative entertainment schedule for Sunday’s event is as follows:
- 11 a.m. to noon, Big Foot High School Jazz Ensemble 1 and 2;

About the causes
The Association for the Prevention of Family Violence serves more than 700 local victims each year. The closest shelter is at least 30 miles away but rarely has openings, therefore, local motels are the only option, leading to a campaign to build a domestic violence shelter in Walworth County by 2020.
VIP Services, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving adults with disabilities and helping them to achieve their highest levels of independence. A greatly expanded transportation program now also serves seniors, veterans and adults with disabilities throughout Walworth County.
The Rotary Club of Elkhorn has a history of numerous years of service being chartered on July 19, 1969. Its members apply rotary’s high ideals of friendship, fellowship, international understanding, and service in personal, business and community life. The club is part of the worldwide fellowship of Rotary International.
