Council denies Wisconsin Vision Associate’s rezone request

Despite pushing back the decision nearly a month to reconsider available information, the City of Elkhorn Common Council voted Monday night against approving a rezone of the former Sentry property that would have partly allowed Wisconsin Vision Associates to operate a distribution facility at the site.
The City of Elkhorn Plan Commission had previously voted 3-1 in favor of recommending the rezone, but then voted 4-3 against a conditional use permit for the company. On May 7, the Council opted to wait until its June 4 meeting to further review information on the topic prior to making a decision.
A motion by Alderman Scott McClory to approve the rezone of the property from B2 Community Business to B5 Highway Business and seconded by Alderman Tom Myrin failed 2-4. Both McClory and Myrin voted in favor of the motion, with Aldermen Bruce Lechner, Tim Shiroda, Frank Boggs and Karel Young voting in opposition.
Because the rezone failed, the topic of a conditional use permit for Wisconsin Vision Associate’s operations at the site became a moot point, and as such, no action needed to be taken.
