Tentative plan is to move toward referendum in 2020

City of Elkhorn aldermen began to move the ball forward on funding a higher staffing level for Elkhorn Fire and EMS services during a Committee of the Whole meeting last week by reaching an agreement that the city needs to move forward while also engaging towns served by the city’s fire and EMS services.
City Administrator Sam Tapson brought the topic before alderman at the Feb. 12 meeting, noting if the city is going to pursue a full-time fire and EMS department via referendum in 2018, it needs to start now to allow ample time to educate the public.
Ultimately, councilmembers decided to hold off on pursuing a referendum until the 2020 November election. However, the meeting did provide alderman with a sufficient amount of information to move forward.
