The City of Elkhorn Common Council voted unanimously in favor of using off-site materials for the East Market Street project at its meeting Jan. 15.

City Engineer Greg Calhoun told councilmembers that contractors are about 40 percent done with the roadway and are on hold until the weather improves in the spring.

“We’re pretty encouraged with the progress they’ve made,” he said. “We’re still hoping to meet that initial June 1 deadline for construction. They’re moving at a pretty good rate.”

Calhoun said Monday that it was originally planned that excess materials stockpiled from the Elkhorn Area School District’s referendum projects was moved over to the roadway for use as a large amount of fill material would be needed in building the road.
