A Delavan woman died after being struck by a vehicle at Jones Travel, Inc. late last month, according to a crash report obtained from the Elkhorn Police Department.
Norma Joy Seward, 73, was killed after being hit by a personal vehicle while walking in the parking lot of Jones Travel, 511 S. Lincoln St., at approximately 4:24 p.m. May 30, the report states.
According to the report, the driver, identified as Linda Dunwiddie, was backing out of a parking stall at the bus company. She told police she had checked for people in the vicinity of her vehicle prior to putting the car in reverse and once in reverse, checked again before moving.
As Dunwiddie began to back up, she told police, she saw the pedestrian behind her vehicle and tried to brake. Her vehicle did not stop, according to the report, and collided with the pedestrian prior to colliding with a building on the grounds.
It’s believed that Seward was walking to her vehicle at the time she was struck by Dunwiddie’s vehicle, the report states. A diagram in the report shows where Seward would have walked to get to her vehicle and the path included her walking behind Dunwiddie’s vehicle.
Seward was reportedly unable to communicate when police arrived on scene. She was transported to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center where she later died from injuries sustained in the incident.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Elkhorn Police Captain Jon Anzalone.
According to the public Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website, charges against Dunwiddie had not been filed as of early last week.
“As a result of the investigation to this point, no charges have been filed,” Anzalone said.
Results of blood tests for both Seward and Dunwiddie are still pending.
The Wisconsin State Patrol was requested by the Elkhorn PD to handle reconstruction of the scene.
