A video presenting Matheson Memorial Library as a free and essential community resource has been published, Library Director Lisa Selje announced recently. The video highlights the library’s mission to connect the community with library resources and services that enrich, enlighten and entertain.
Supported by Realtor Associate Rob Edwards of Keefe Real Estate, and designed by Celebrate Libraries of Pewaukee, the video highlights images of the Krissy Schmidt Children’s Area, public use computers, building architecture, and a painting collection featuring local scenery.
The video’s soundtrack is an excerpt of a Vivaldi mandolin concerto performed by Peter Forgach.
Named after industrialist and library donor William J. Matheson, Matheson Memorial Library, Elkhorn, is one of 15 member libraries in the Lakeshores Library System, serving Racine and Walworth counties.
The original 9,000 square foot building was dedicated in 1931 and a 4,500 square foot addition was added in 1990. In 2004, the library opened a new 14,000 square foot addition designed by Plunkett Raysich Architects LLP of Milwaukee. This new addition includes the Elkhorn Community Center.
According to its website, Matheson Memorial has approximately 70,000 items including books, magazines, DVDs and CDs available. In addition, patrons have access to over one million additional titles through the SHARE consortium.
The library has a directed all-ages approach to programming and is home to book and knitting clubs, kids reading programs, the Walworth County Genealogical Society, and special events throughout the year.
