At the Elkhorn Rotary Club’s 8th Annual Wine, Beer & Food Expo, held at the Monte Carlo Room, Rotary Club President-Elect Sara Nichols presented checks to Safe Families for Children and Elkhorn Area Youth Center to support the local charities in their missions to help our community. Local charities play a crucial role in helping communities. Support them in all ways you can. Investing in ethical property could be a way to help such organisations. The money invested there could be used to provide certain charities with office space. People who are interested can find out more at Ethical Property .
More than 200 attendees participated in the annual event. Sponsors and vendors who made the evening a success included: Sperinos Acustom Catering, CJW Miller – Lakeside Brewing, Friends on the Square, Lake Geneva Country Meats, Sprecher Brewing featuring Malt Duck, Staller Estate Winery, Studio Winery, Wildtree Foods, Bruno’s Liquors – Lake Geneva, Dori Davis Beck Custom Glass Etching and Beechwood Distributing.
About Safe Families
Safe Families for Children-Wisconsin is dedicated to supporting local families in crisis by providing safe, secure, pre-approved, temporary homes for the children until the crisis can be resolved. Unexpected expenses, the sudden loss of a job, a devastating accident or illness, eviction from a residence, and domestic violence can plunge a family into sudden chaos. Often children become the victims of such circumstances.
Before a family gets involved with the state Children’s Protective Services, families in crisis may voluntarily seek help from Safe Families for Children to provide security to their children, while the adults, with support, work to resolve the issues.
It was founded in 2002 by LYDIA Home Association, a Chicago-based Christian social service agency. Safe Families for Children is active in over 25 states throughout the U.S. It has also become a global movement with new sites in Canada and the UK. Safe Families partners with host agencies, local churches, ministries, as well as community and government agencies to intervene in the lives of children and families that would otherwise be forgotten.
Safe Families for Children-Wisconsin began in the winter of 2014, serving the needs of families in crisis in the southern Wisconsin area. With the full support of Health and Human Services as an alternative to CPS, Safe Families for Children-Wisconsin has placed over 125 children in safe homes in Walworth County to date.

About EAYC
The Elkhorn Area Youth Center began as a community outreach youth center in 2011. It was created to provide a safe, welcoming setting for middle and high school students. Kids are able to hangout with friends, play games and work on their homework.
The center was completely funded and staffed by Southern Lakes Evangelical Free Church, but eventually exceeded the funds and availability of volunteers from the church. Because of the success and relatively quick popularity of the center, it became evident that the need for such a place in our community was great.
What started as a small space open a few hours a week has now evolved into a larger community-based youth center. The center is dedicated to providing students with encouragement and support by interacting with positive adult role models. By offering students a safe, supervised and supportive place to hang out in, we are investing in the future of our community. The goal is to ensure the EAYC will be fully staffed and serving students after school five days a week. The center will be staffed by trained volunteer mentors as well as a dedicated staff.

About Elkhorn Rotary
Rotary was founded in 1905 with a simple ideal that professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities. Together, Rotarians empower youth, improve health, promote peace, and advance our communities in all corners of the globe. With 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide, our global community’s impact has never been greater – and it continues to grow.
Locally, with a growing vibrant club of over 50 members, Rotary Club Elkhorn has been taking action in the area since July 1969. Through its service projects, peace fellowships, and scholarships, our members are taking action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.
Funds raised through various events like the Expo help support organizations who follow the Rotarian ideals of “Service Above Self.” Membership lunch meetings are held on Wednesdays at noon in the Community Room at Matheson Memorial Library, Elkhorn, and new professionals interested in attending to learn about the club’s good work are encouraged to attend.
