In celebration of nine years of building local philanthropy, the Elkhorn Fund recently awarded grants totaling $12,850 recently.
Recipients of the grants are:
– Elkhorn Area School District, $650 each to: 1st Annual EASD Maker Faire & STEM Club; OAE Hearing Screener; Science Saturday, and; Spot Vision Screener
– Elkhorn Area Youth Center, $1,500 for Wish List items from the Lori Genske Fund
– Elkhorn Food Pantry, $1,500 for holiday turkeys
– Hope New, $2,500 for transportation assistance
– Kettle Moraine Land Trust, $1,500 for Day in the Woods from the Lori Genske Fund
– Lakeland Little Learners, $2,000 for playground surfacing from the Lori Genske Fund
– Open Arms Free Clinic, $2,000 for technology
“Each year non-profit organizations that provide direct service to the Elkhorn community, schools in the Elkhorn School District and local government entities providing service to Elkhorn are encouraged to submit grant applications” Tobie Watts-Green, Elkhorn Fund Advisory Board Chairperson, said.
The Elkhorn Fund Advisory Board, which includes Chris Clapper, Bob Ford, Tobie Watts-Green, Tim Middleton, Karen Kallem, Ward Phillips and Jason Tadlock has the task of grant making oversight.
“There were many great requests, but the total amount requested exceeded the amount available to grant. We would love to be able to fully fund every request. The growth of the Elkhorn Fund depends on annual and planned gifts from individuals in the community. As the Fund grows, so do the grants” Kallem said.
“I think anyone who has made a gift to the Elkhorn Fund shares a common goal, to do what we can to enrich the quality of life for present and future generations in Elkhorn”, said Watts-Green.
More than $95,000 has been granted to the community to support charitable programs. Gifts to the Elkhorn Fund are welcomed anytime and are tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.
The Elkhorn Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. is a platform for building local philanthropy and believes that every citizen plays a part in making a good community better. The Elkhorn Fund is the only community resource uniquely positioned to respond to a variety of current and changing needs in Elkhorn. Established in 2001, the growth of the fund depends on current and planned financial gifts.
