Committee reviewing new, potentially better option for city parks

A bit of a change-up from what the committee had previously approved to be sent out for bids, members of the Elkhorn Municipal Services and Utilities Committee took a look at a new option for Elkhorn’s Tasch Park which would not only be more cost effective, but provide for more ball fields in the city.
Under the new option, the addition of a second field at Tasch Park would be removed from the plans. However, it’s not just going away.
If the committee were to go with the new option, two new tee-ball fields would be put in at Sunset Park. In the long run though, it’s not just Sunset Park that would benefit.
Public Works Manager Martin Nuss said Monday night while the cost for just the two ball diamonds at Tasch Park would have been about $125,000, he thinks moving them to Sunset Park, the city could also improve Tasch Park as it is now, replacing the back stop on the ball diamond and playground equipment, all for the same $125,000.
“You guys have approved the money for Tasch just for the two baseball fields,” he said. “Playground equipment isn’t in there, fencing isn’t in there, landscaping, there’s nothing else in there except ball fields, so, your $125,000 is still going to go higher.
“So, the goal was to get this all done and not have to do that.”
