A subject is in custody after police asked residents to avoid Elkhorn’s Jackson Creek subdivision because of an active police scene Monday evening.
Around 5 p.m. Monday night, the Elkhorn Police Department posted on its Facebook page that it was at an active police scene on Grant Street in the Jackson Creek subdivision, just south of the city, and it was asking all residents to avoid the area at the time.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday night, officers reported over police radios they had made contact with a subject outside of a home in the Jackson Creek subdivision. Over the radio, officers said the subject was exiting the front of the home with his hands in the air.
Shortly thereafter, officers were discussing pulling a vehicle forward to place the suspect in and officers were planning on entering the home to clear it of weapons. At 6:17 p.m., officers searching the home reported the home had been cleared.
Police opened up Grant Street at Highway 67 to traffic at about 6:30 p.m.
More details will be included in this report and in this week’s edition of the Elkhorn Independent as they become available.
