A new music ensemble from Elkhorn Area High School debuted itself this holiday season, performing at not only the school’s holiday concert, but also at local assisted living facilities.
Students from the Elkhorn Area High School band have taken up tone chimes, working together to perform some holiday classics under the direction of Band Director Sarah Tauchen at not only the school’s annual holiday concert, but Tender Reflections and Sunnyside assisted living facilities as well.
Tauchen said the tone chimes are similar to the traditional English hand-bells, seen in church hand-bell choirs, though are a much sturdier silver bar with a hammer that strikes the bar, creating the chiming sound.
“Basically, they’re like bells, they’re just a more durable version,” she said.
Tauchen said tone chimes also have a bit more of a mellower sound in comparison to hand-bells that have a quite bright chime.
