City of Elkhorn District 3 Alderman James D’Alessandro submitted his resignation from the City of Elkhorn Common Council about midday on Monday and the city is now looking for someone to fill his vacant seat.
In an email to Mayor Brian Olson, D’Alessandro said due to unexpected family matters he’s not able to dedicate the time required to represent his district to the fullest.
“Though we have had some disagreements, it’s been an honor working with a Mayor and Council that truly has the people’s best interests at heart,” he said in his email.
D’Alessandro also said this is a great opportunity for someone who might be community minded to take a chance at serving the community.
Olson said he’s appreciative of the time D’Alessandro has served on the City Council and wishes him the best of success in future endeavours.
In looking to fill the vacant seat, the council is looking to appoint a resident of the city’s third district to serve the remainder of D’Alessandro’s term, which will expire in April 2016 when the aldermanic seat is up for election.
Elkhorn residents 18 and older living in the third district interested in being interviewed and considered for the appointment are asked to submit a letter of interest to: City of Elkhorn, Attn: Clerk, 9 S. Broad St., P.O. Box 920, Elkhorn, WI 53121.
Letters of interest may also be dropped off in person at the City Clerk’s office or placed in the City Hall 24-hour drop box.
All letters must be received by the City Clerk’s office by 1 p.m. on Friday, June 26, for consideration and all candidates will be subject to a police background check.
During a special meeting on July 6, the Council will interview all qualified applicants.
Each applicant will be notified of his or her scheduled interview time.
The council intends to make a final decision and make an appointment at the conclusion of the meeting and the appointee will take office immediately.
