Event to honor life of Elkhorn man
The fourth annual Nick Van Dyke Memorial Shamrock Shuffle will kick off at 10 a.m. March 21 at Lauderdale Landing, W5625 Westshore Dr., Elkhorn.
The Shuffle is an annual fund
raising event honoring the life of Elkhorn native Nick Van Dyke, who died at the age of 28.
Van Dyke was a mechanic in Elkhorn and tended bar at Lauderdale Landing. The bar has dedicated the run-walk event to his memory.
Money raised will fund a scholarship for a student of Elkhorn Area High School entering into an automotive training program after graduation.
Because of the generosity of supporters and participants, organizers have also been able to launch the “Spread the Love” campaign, which helps families or organizations in the Elkhorn community with special needs. With the funds raised, they have been able to help the family of Kelly Butzen, Phil and Lindsay Wester and their son, Liam, and spread the focus throughout the year with donations of Christmas gifts to local families.
The Nick Van Dyke Shamrock Shuffle is a two-, three-, or five-mile run or walk course that begins and ends at Lauderdale Landing and winds through the rural lake area community. Festive dress is encouraged and rewarded. Awards go to fastest man, woman, youth and “best dressed.” Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win many great prizes.
Shuffle attendance has exceeded 400 participants in each of the past three years. Organizers hope to match or exceed that success this year. Registration is $15 per person until Sunday and includes an event t-shirt. Registration fees increase to $20 after March 1.
Registration forms are available on the Shamrock Shuffle Facebook page, at Lockhart Services, Frank’s County Market and Daniel’s Sentry. Race day sign-in begins at 8 a.m.
