A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 20 for a Baraboo felon charged with having a gun in his tool bag at his place of employment in Elkhorn.
Douglas P. Esposito, 50, was charged Feb. 10 in Walworth County Circuit Court with possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to the criminal complaint, an officer was called to 500 Nathan Lane in Elkhorn on Jan. 30 where employee Alfred Romo said Esposito was fired a month earlier for drinking and using drugs. Midwest Drywall Service and Kahle Wholesale Flooring are at 500 and 501 Nathan Lane.
Romo said Esposito kept his tools in a room in the warehouse at the business and occasionally slept there, according to the complaint. He said Esposito left his tools in the room, and on Jan. 29, employee Joshua Kahle went into the room to find some tools and found a gun. Kahle told his father, Jeffrey Kahle, about the gun, and Jeffrey Kahle said he’d been told Esposito wanted to pick up the tools, according to the complaint.
On Jan. 30, police were at 500 Nathan Lane when Esposito arrived to pick up the tools. Esposito acknowledged that he was a felon, and said the gun belonged to his wife and he knew it was in his tool bag but never touched it, according to the complaint.
Esposito was convicted of burglary in Dane County in February 2014.
