Bring your questions and concerns
Elkhorn police officers are looking to sit down with community members over a cup of coffee Nov. 20 to answer questions and discuss concerns.
Coffee with a Cop is slated for 8-10 a.m. at Perk Up, 27 N. Wisconsin Street. All residents are welcome.
“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” Chief Joel Christensen said. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
Coffee with a Cop is intended to break down normal barriers that exist between police and community members and allow for relaxed communication.
According to Capt. Jon Anzalone, the majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make connections with their communities.
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
This is the first time the department has offered the program, Anzalone said.
Anyone with questions about the program may contact Anzalone at (262) 723-2210.
