City Council expected to consider matter at Nov. 18 meeting
Elkhorn residents on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted in favor of a non-binding referendum that allows city officials to spend up to $3.5 million to replace the swimming facility at Sunset Park.
A total of 1,379 Elkhorn residents (29.3 percent of registered voters) turned out to vote over the course of the day, with a final vote of 1069-310 in favor of the referendum.
The swimming pool at Sunset Park will be part of an estimated $7.5 million borrowing package that will go towards capital improvements according to Elkhorn Common Council President Brian Olson.
The following items will likely be among the minimum requirements for a new facility: zero-depth entry, an ADA-compliant pool and bath house, six competitive swimming lanes and starting blocks, a dual-sided concession stand to serve pool and park activities, a diving area, an expanded deck and a slide.
The City Council is expected to consider the matter at it’s next meeting on Nov. 18.
