Walworth County will name the access road that serves the County Public Works complex as “Jerry Himebauch Drive” in honor of the 19-year county highway veteran who tragically lost his life last summer while working on a county road maintenance project.
Himebauch was killed July 23 after he was struck by a county dump truck while working on County Road J near Sterman Road in the Town of Troy.
The 66-year-old Lyons man was among the highway crew chip sealing the roadway, according to officials.
A ceremony will be held beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 to dedicate the road in recognition of Himebauch’s meritorious public service to the county.
The ceremony will be held at the Public Works sign on County Highway NN in Elkhorn at the entrance to the Public Works complex.
At the event, an announcement will be made regarding another memorial for Himebauch that is being coordinated with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Himebauch’s principal highway “beat” included portions of Interstate 43, from the rest areas northbound to the Waukesha County line.
The ceremony will be held rain or shine.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Department of Public Works Training Room at W4097 County Road NN, Elkhorn.
