Annual fundraisers suspended because of pandemic
The Loomis-Martin Post 188 American Legion is asking the community to help put a new roof on the Legion Hall at the corner of Church and School streets, just off the East Troy Village Square.
The East Troy Legion Post’s building dates back to the early 1900s and is in need of multiple repairs, according to a press release from the Legion.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Legion’s usual fundraisers have been put on hold, including its corn roasting at local events, waiting tables at the Pizza Ranch and its fundraiser raffle.
“We did however, receive raffle donations prior to the restrictions,” the press release stated. “These gifts included gift certificates from Princess Café, Milwaukee Admirals, Roma’s Restaurant, Milwaukee Wave, Blue Bay and other businesses promised their support closer to the raffle date. We do not know that a raffle is our plans for this year. It has not been determined how these generous donations will be used at this time.”
The Legion has contracted local builder, James R. Taylor and Sons, to have the Legion Hall re-roofed with hopes the work can be done this year.
Any financial help in the form of monetary donations would be greatly appreciated by the Legion. Donations can be made by check and mailed to: American Legion Post 188, P.O. Box 775, East Troy, WI 53120. Donations may also be dropped off at The Global Glass on the East Troy Village Square.
In addition, the Legion’s website, loomis-martinpost188.org, has a blue “donate” button near the bottom of the page for those who prefer to donate online.
