Good Earth Church of the Divine’s autumn art exhibit at Michael Fields
The Good Earth Church of the Divine is having an opening repetition for its autumn exhibit from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Big Brown Barn at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, W2493 Highway ES, East Troy.
The painting exhibit, “Beautiful Humans – Portrait Moments” will run until mid-December as part of the church’s Sacred Season exhibition series.
Lake Geneva’s Alice White is the featured artist for the fall exhibit. According to a press release from the church, White turned to painting after her daughter died.
White’s daughter, who was a young mother at the time, was killed in a car accident 19 years ago on her way to school at Whitewater. White has also had her own health scares, having survived a series of pulmonary embolisms.
“Life is too short not to do what we need to do,” White said. “I am fortunate in the support of my family. But I know that when something bad happens you can make something good come of it.”
A former Michigan native and Illinois resident, she now has her studio in Lake Geneva. Prior to the death of her daughter, she had already secured her BFA, MA and MFA degrees from the University of Illinois at DeKalb, Illinois, so her interest in art was not new, although, she said, “I never picked up a paint brush until after the age of 40.”
White was represented by the Kay Garvey Gallery, Chicago, for more than 10 years. When it closed her work was represented by the Gwenda Jay Gallery, also in Chicago. Today, she has as studio in Lake Geneva and she exhibits in solo and group shows nationally, and her works are included in corporate and private collections.
The public is invited to the opening reception and the exhibition will open to the public on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends by appointment.
