A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 3 for an East Troy woman charged with drunken driving and kicking a police officer in the groin.
Maria Billings, 35, was charged Sept. 24 in Racine County Circuit Court with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, fourth offense; resisting an officer; battery to a law enforcement officer; and disorderly conduct.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness saw a car “all over the road” that had possibly hit a guard rail and then drove into the Rivermoor Golf Couse parking lot in the Town of Waterford on Sept. 22. The witness saw a woman stumble out of the car, fall down near the putting greens and then go into the bushes, according to the complaint.
When officers encountered Billings, who matched the description given, she was unsteady on her feet and had glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, according to the complaint.
Billings was unable to perform field sobriety tests or follow directions, and, when police tried to handcuff her, she pulled away and screamed “Murderer!” the complaint contends. Billings resisted arrest and kicked a deputy in the groin before being placed in a squad car where she kicked the Plexiglas divider and side window, according to the complaint.
Police took Billings to a hospital where she refused a legal blood draw, told hospital staff police had raped her, yelled and screamed and said “Just kill me,” according to the complaint. Billings was placed on suicide watch at the Racine County Jail as a result of her comments.
