Active shooter training part of program
St. James United Methodist Church, 2945 Main St., East Troy, will have a free Health, Wellness and Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Safety representatives include the Village of East Troy Police Department Police Chief Jeremy Swendrowski and Officer Jeff Price; Dan Nelson, of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, who will be leading the training in the Active Shooters Program in the church’s sanctuary. The training was adopted from the Civilian Response to Active Shooters Events.
The Rev. Nhia Wahn Her said a number of churches have been offering the active shooters training in the Milwaukee area and he wanted to bring it to St. James. Training will occur from 10:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
The Fellowship Hall will feature a variety of professionals from the area with booths pertaining to health and wellness. Guests will have the opportunity to have their blood pressure checked and get information on why this is important; get their flu shot from the pharmacist from Hometown Pharmacy as well as nutritional information; have their balance, memory and strength assessed by the ADRC of Walworth County; learn about the Open Arms Free Clinic; have a digital posture screening and obtain spinal health education from the Wisconsin Spinal Rehabilitation Center.
Check out the book selections from the local library; learn more about essential oils; and Snap Fitness will provide information on their gym facilities and programs.
The chapel will be open for prayer or quiet reflection.
