Two East Troy men are charged with two felony counts and two misdemeanor counts stemming from a May 5 incident that started as a traffic stop. Their mother is charged with harboring them after they fled police.
Zachary T. Coggon, 22, was charged May 26 in Walworth County Court with attempting to flee or elude a traffic officer; possession of marijuana, second and subsequent offense, as a party to a crime and as a repeater; obstructing an officer as a repeater; and possession of drug paraphernalia as a party to a crime and as a repeater.
Johnny C. Coggon, 27, of East Troy, was charged May 12 with felony bail jumping, possession of marijuana as a party to a crime and as a second and subsequent offense, obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia as a party to a crime, all as a repeater.
Their mother, Lisa A. Coggon, 51, was charged May 26 with one felony count of harboring or aiding a felon and one misdemeanor count of obstructing an officer.
According to the criminal complaint, Zachary Coggon was the driver of a sport utility vehicle that drove away after being pulled over for non-working tail lights on Townline Road in the Town of East Troy at about 1:55 a.m. May 5. When the officer exited his squad car to approach the SUV, it drove off, according to the complaint.
Police followed the car to a Town of East Troy home where Zachary Coggon and his brother, Johnny Coggon, 27, of East Troy, did not comply with an officer’s orders.
The complaint states the officer told the suspects to “stop” after they got of the SUV, but one of the brothers immediately left the scene and headed toward the west side of the home.
According to the complaint, the officer then drew his gun and ordered the second brother to get down on his knees. A third man, who was with the two brothers, laid down on the ground at this point, according to the complaint. The second brother did go down on his knees for a moment, but then he got up and went toward the house.
The third man gave the police the names of the brothers and police approached the residence, where a woman was standing on the front porch, according to the complaint.
Lisa A. Coggon, 51, demanded to know what was going on as the police approached her and the criminal complaint states she was “uncooperative” when officers questioned her. She told officers she would go into the residence and talk to her sons.
According to the complaint, police waited outside of the apartment when Lisa Coggon went inside and they heard the deadbolt latch. The officers knocked several times and advised them they were facing felony charges and to open the door.
When the SUV was searched, the officer found 10.8 grams of marijuana and a pipe, according to the complaint.
