The family-owned Good’s Antiques had its grand opening Jan. 15 at it new Main Street location and has been seeing a constant flow of customers ever since.
The shop is owned by Tom Good, with family partners, brother, Steven Good; parents, Tim and Christine Good; sister, Kathy Ritter and niece, Kristie Conklin.
Tom and Steve have lived in the community for more than 20 years and are graduates of East Troy High School.
“It’s a big family affair,” store manager Kristie Conklin (niece of Tom) said.
The Good family has been working with antiques for more than 25 years in the East Troy area and recently combined many of the family member’s independent operations and opened their first storefront.
“We all do shows across the nation – my grandparents, me and mom, my uncles – and this has been a great opportunity to have all our stuff in one space, not in a barn somewhere, or traveling all over,” Conklin said.
It was Tim and Christine Good who started the antiquing, Conklin said. It began as a hobby more than two decades ago, but built up into a family business over the years with many family members involved. Conklin said it just made sense to combine into one location.
“Having a space in this community really means a lot to us,” she continued. “My grandparents settled here and all my aunts and uncles went to East Troy High School, so this is home for us.”
So far, things have been going well in the new digs, Conklin said.
“We had about 70 people for our grand opening and a good amount of people coming in,” she said. “We’ve moved some large pieces moved out already and had contact from people on Facebook and just walking into the story, it’s been a nice combination.”
Conklin said the family was looking at this first year as a “testing ground” to get a feel for what people in the area are looking for.
“We also want to East Troy to continue to be a destination for visitors, so we’re hoping this helps with that,” she said.
The little storefront on Main Street has antiques and reclaimed pieces on display. They will also fill custom orders if possible. They do not offer consignment.
The Good family still does shows across the country and has booth in the Lake Geneva and Roscoe (South Beloit) antique malls.
“We believe antiques are uniquely crafted with quality, telling the history of a time, place and people. Each piece we refurbish or find highlights the integrity of that history. Our hope is that the piece you fall in love with becomes a focal point of a story in your home,” Conklin said.
Good’s Antiques is at 3066 Main St., Suite 102, East Troy. The shop is open by appointment and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
