At a pre-trial hearing last week, one of four suspected co-conspirators in a 2014 robbery and shooting in East Troy waived his right to a speedy trial, and the trial, which was set to begin Monday, was delayed until May.
Jeremy L. Thomas, 28, of Milwaukee, who is in custody awaiting trial, appeared in court Jan. 28 with his attorney, Donna Jean Kuchler.
Walworth County Assistant District Attorney Haley Jo Johnson, who appeared for the state, referred to the voluminous discovery in the case, and Thomas waived his demand for a speedy trial. The four-day trial was rescheduled for May 22 with a final pretrial conference set for May 16.
Thomas, along with Drevon Grant, 20, of Milwaukee, Michael Craft, 35, of Glendale, and Jacob A. Curler, 35, of East Troy, are charged in connection with an October 2014 robbery in which a woman was shot and a man beaten in an apartment at Barley’s Hops and Malt in the Town of Troy.
Grant was convicted of armed robbery and sentenced in December 2015 to 15 years in prison and seven years extended supervision.
Charges of armed robbery, first-degree reckless injury, substantial battery and false imprisonment are pending against Thomas, Kraft and Curler.
A status conference is set for Feb. 10 in Kraft’s case, and Curler is scheduled for a final pretrial conference Feb. 16.
