Corn and brat roast to feature local vendors
All the food at this year’s Knights of Columbus annual corn and brat roast is being provided by local restaurants and stores.
“The best thing about the roast is that everything we have is supplied locally,” Grand Knight Fred Kmiec said. “The corn is coming from Bower’s Farm, the brats from Hometown Sausage, the hotdogs and hamburgers from Gus’s Drive-In along with all the condiments, and Frank’s Piggly Wiggly is supplying beverages and other things.”
The corn and brat roast at 4 p.m. today in Village Square Park, 21066 Church St., East Troy, and runs from 11 a.m. to dusk on Saturday and Sunday.
The event also features live music from 1 t 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with Genesee Ridge Blue Grass Band and Liam Ford Band respectively.
Proceeds from the event help with scholarships and community programs.
“It’s the East Troy Knights of Columbus’ biggest fundraiser of the year,” Kmiec said. “We support not only St. Peter’s Parish in East Troy, but other local and state charities. We give three scholarships every year to the high school and then there’s our school at St. Peter’s.”
The Knights are also planning a fall Football Sweepstakes fundraiser to raise money for the stained glass project at St. Peter’s.
“We hope to have the tickets for that soon, maybe even by the corn roast,” Kmiec said. “If it’s successful, there are other projects in the St. Peter’s Parish we hope to help fund in the future with it.”
The Knights put on the roast with the help of about 80 club members and their families and they’re hoping for a good turn out.
“It’s a good summertime community event for East Troy right on the square, which is where the whole community gathers,” Kmiec said. “We look forward to this every year.”
